It’s Time Out for Theta Mom Thursday! For those of you visiting for the first time, the goal is to grab one hour of time within one week to do whatever you want…without the kids. It’s such an amazing proposition, I know! On Thursdays, post how you spent your “time out” (add my button from the right side bar or link to me) and be sure to stop here to link up and meet other Theta Moms to see how they spent their time out!
Between my move to WP, Thanksgiving, and now the holiday rush, saying it’s been a busy time would be an understatement. We are already into December and it will be a total blur until January. I’m so glad these “time outs” will keep me focused to ensure that I take at least one hour for myself between the baking, shopping, cooking, wrapping, working, cleaning, blogging, and well, you get the idea…
The week before Thanksgiving I went to dinner with two of my really good girlfriends. I originally met these two fabulous ladies about ten years ago when I began my career as an elementary school teacher. Our classrooms were actually all next to each other in the same hallway. When we met, we instantly became friends. We all began teaching right out of college, so we literally “grew up” together. When we were single, we hit the bars together. When we were married, we went out as couples together. And then one by one, we each started to have children of our own.
When we got together for dinner recently, we were drinking some wine and reminiscing about the life I briefly described; we talked about the women we were back then and how our lives, especially as mothers, are so different now. Ten years ago, we were just a bunch of kids out of college trying to earn a living and having a blast doing it. The ONLY question on our mind at the time was, “What bar are we going to go to for happy hour???” Now that we are smack in the middle of raising our own kids, paying a mortgage and living as “real” adults do, trying to get to happy hour for one drink is such a challenge!
Regardless, these are the kind of girlfriends that I won’t see for months but when I get together with them, it’s like I just saw them yesterday. Our conversations could go on for days and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Together, we have a real sisterhood that is hard to find…
It felt so good to sip some red wine, chow down on some amazing Italian food and talk endlessly for hours with two really good friends. So my time out was a major success; good company, good food and good wine…and of course, a trip down memory lane. Although it is quite a challenge, we agreed to at least try to do this dinner thing once a month. It truly is the perfect time out for this Theta Mom.
