Last weekend I took my son and his friend to see Yo Gabba Gabba Live: There’s a Party in My City at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. My son was just as thrilled about this opportunity as I was and excited to see the “real” DJ Lance Rock {Lance Robertson} open the show! And joining DJ Lance were the full cast of characters including Brobee, Toodee, Foofa, Muno and Plex. From a Theta Mom’s perspective, it was very cool to see the characters my son has grown to love on stage live because the cast of Yo Gabba Gabba are seriously like celebrities in my house!
The show was non-stop energy from the moment the curtain opened. Just like the television show, the live aspect of this performance was infused with retro-style and music to different beats to teach life lessons through song and dance. When the cast sang and danced to one of his all-time favorite songs “Get the Sillies Out,” he jumped out of his seat and sang right along.
Even more exciting was when the real hip-hop legend Biz Markie took the stage! The audience went wild as he directly pulled some kids from the first few rows to teach them how to beat box with “Biz’s Beat of the Day.” There were also some special guests that joined the party on stage for the Super Music Friends Show and the Dancey Dance segments. It was during these times that audience participation was fully encouraged. The kids were out of their seats, clapping their hands and dancing to the music. Interactive, exciting and fun would be three easy words to describe this upbeat show and my son was smiling the entire time – which of course made me smile, too!
This was truly a state-of-the-art production featuring music, singing, dancing and even animation through a large backdrop. Most of the elements seen on the television show were integrated throughout this live performance. It truly was an experience that gave my son a chance to see some of his favorite characters “come to life” and I’m sure it’s one of those shows he’ll remember for a long time.
I highly recommend bringing your child to see this performance live if and when it comes to your city. I have to be honest though and share that I did not bring my two year-old daughter. My husband stayed home with her and I brought my son, his friend and her mom. (I was afraid that she would not have sat through the performance). But, having watched the show first hand and seeing how the characters truly engage the audience, I think she probably could have sat through it. My son is five and it was the perfect show for him as he loved every second of it!
Here is my son’s friend and her mom…
And my son and I getting ready to watch the big performance….
Overall, I could not say more great things about this show. If your child loves Yo Gabba Gabba it really is a must see! I give this show two huge thumbs up so if it arrives in your city, go party with the cast. Your children will think YOU are the superstar for taking them!
*I was provided four tickets to the performance of Yo Gabba Gabba Live: There’s a Party in My City at Radio City Music Hall. These are my own honest opinions about the performance reflective of my experience.
Fun!! My little guy hasn’t really gotten into Yo Gabba Gabba yet, but so many of my friends’ kids love it.
My daughter (who is 2) LOVES it so that’s why it’s always on in this house.
Ok what is Yo Gabba Gabba and why does one look like a one eyed orange person/cactus? Lol…
Have you ever seen the show? My kids L-O-V-E it!
Both of my kids LOVE{D} Yo Gabba Gabba…and now my almost 2 yr old walks around the house crying for “GABBY”, as he calls it. It is odd but the kids sure do love it!
Same here girl – and the live show was so exciting for both of us! 😉
How fun!!
My coworker just went this past weekend!
We had a blast!!
What a cutie your little guy is! BTW, may I add, you look so young! 😉
LOL!!! Glad I look more my age in this photo! 😉
We just saw Disney on Ice, and it was so good, I would have gone by myself to watch it!
You’re going to laugh – but that’s how I felt about this show! I love me some Yo Gabba Gabba!
I can’t wait for Yo Gabba Gabba Live to come to Atlanta! I’m going to be at the October 23rd show with my 2 year old and 3 year old….here’s hoping they make it all the way through!
As I mentioned in the post, the show is REALLY engaging – the kids are dancing and singing 99% of the time! Can’t wait to hear how it goes!
Oh, my younger two love Gabba Gabba. Especially my middle- who has trouble understanding things sometimes- but he can get it better in a song, so this show really is a lifesaver with him.
Your middle sounds like my daughter – I think she understands Foofa more than she does me! 😉
It kinda cracks my up that shows like this provide tickets for bloggers. Kids always enjoy them and they always sell out!
When my daughter was a preschooler, we took her to see the Wiggles a couple of times. I had a blast at both concerts. And my husband and I were both amazed at how excited WE were to see them live (look, there’s Jeff!).
Now, we’re usually pretty jaded folks. We live in Los Angeles, my husband works in the industry. We’ve been to the friggin’ Oscars! Yet, there we were, getting excited to see The Wiggles! LOL
Kinda bizarre!
You’ve been to the Oscars!! Now THAT would be an awesome blog post!
Yes, it was a wonderful show and I am thrilled to have had the chance to go! I was *just* as excited to see DJ Lance!! 😉

My kids have not gotten into Yo Gabba Gabba yet- perhaps I should enlighten them? Also, I am so glad you talked about ages and taking kids to live performances. We haven’t taken them to anything- Sadie is 3 1/2 and Tyler is 18 months. I keep thinking that maybe she is about ready. She will be 4 in February. What do you think?
You know your kid best, which is why I chose not to bring Miss Fuss Pants – I couldn’t chance bringing her and then having her freak out. It’s not like it was a movie down the street from my house that I could have just left. Having said that though, there were plenty of others who had their 2 year olds there and it was the kind of show that she probably would have been ok because it was SO interactive. the kids were on their feet most of the show! Your little Sadie would be a great age to take to a show like this. My son just turned 5 and loved it. The 18 month-old, I say wait.
I will have to be on the lookout for them to come to Vancouver. We’ve been taking Reagan to live shows like this since she was 20 months old!
I hope it comes there because you will love it!
Looks like you guys had a great time. Do you think a 16 month old would be able to sit through it? I’d love to take my daughter.
That’s a tough call and my honest answer would be to probably wait until she’s closer to 2 – unless she is a total laid back kind of kid – mine is a total firecracker and doesn’t sit for anything!
Oh how fun! We haven’t seen much of that show here, but any of the live shows like that are always fun! My son will be five next month, and he loves getting to see movies and shows and the like. My 20 month old does not sit still for much at this point, but my husband and I take turns doing things like this with him for now! Glad you got to enjoy a good show.
That’s exactly what we did Ashley! I left Miss Fuss Pants at home with the hubs, so I was able to take my son and his friend and they LOVED it!!
I’ve never heard of Yo Gabba Gabba, but it looks like a fun show!
It’s soooo awesome, you should check it out!
Sounds like a lot of fun. I can’t wait to be able to take Kaia to things like that.
It was a blast and my son is at such a fun age!!
This show sounds like it was wonderful. We tried Curious George with my two year old and it was a little longer than his attention span.
That was exactly my concern, so I am glad I waited and I was able to enjoy the show with my son. I know if I brought her, she would have been the entire focus.
That looks like an amazing time! As you know, I was dying to go (kind of funny that it was me, not Peanut!) Next time, I definitely am there
Yes Sarah – you should TOTALLY go!
I am so glad you guys had such a wonderful time, and I am so glad your shared your thoughts. We are/were on the fence about taking Baby DIVA this december when Yo Gabba Gabba live makes its way to houston. She will be 2 next month and although she loves these crazy monsters, both H4L and I were thinking she still might be too young. After reading your review, I think we will wait another year or so before taking her. Thanks!
I do think every kid is different, but if you are on the fence, I would wait. By the time she is 3, you will BOTH appreciate the experience. 😉
Looked like lots of fun.
While we see most of the same kid-popular programmes available in the US, I have not come across this one Yo Gaba Gaba?
The way that you described this show makes me want to go, and I’m not usually a fan of Yo Gabba Gabba. I can’t wait until they come to my area.
That sounds like a lot of fun. My little guy isn’t the biggest fan of Yo Gabba Gabba but he would probably have fun at a show like that!
We love some Yo Gabba Gabba around here and would LOVE to see the show!
I laugh when I hear all the people who have never heard of it because it takes over my house! Some days I wish I had not heard of it 😉
So glad you had such a good time. I just took Sophia to see Aladdin and she loved it!
I’m glad you had a fun time!
“There’s a party in my tummy! So yummy, so yummy!” That sounds like so much fun. So glad you all had a great time
The Nick shows are really done so well. Personally in my head watching the show is torture but the joy I get from seeing how much my son loves it, makes it all worth while. We also saw one on the spring that had 4 different Nick shows, also at radio city. He loved it too!
Sounds like so much fun! Heather, as an aside, you look amazing!
Looks like a GREAT time. I’m totally bummed that my guy doesn’t like Yo Gabba Gabba anymore. I love when they have celebs like Jack Black or Rivers Cuomo on to sing. btw, great pic of you and your son!

I watched a friend’s daughter a year ago and we spent the night watching Yo Gabba Gabba, and I have to admit, I was quite enthralled.
And yes, I later utilized those dance moves at a club.
What can I say?
I’m just that cool.
