Redefining the Role of Motherhood

Better yet, grab your favorite cocktail and come hang out with me for a while. It’s been a whirlwind of a week and those Theta Mom posts? They blew me away.

I cannot even begin to describe how authentic, honest and REAL every single entry was. I received a handful of emails from bloggers thanking me for giving them the push to step out of their comfort zone. Many had said if it wasn’t for this Theta Mom “meme” they may not have even written some of these posts. I also received emails from readers saying how much they enjoyed this meme and that this Mission has indeed made an impact on the blogosphere. THAT in itself is truly a blessing to me.

So I would love for you to take a moment and check out some favorites. We’re talking quality writing with tons of raw emotion. If you are looking for some really good reads, look no further.

For starters, read the account of a mother who lost a child due to a terminal illness or hang on every word of one of the most extraordinary posts I have ever read about PPD or how autism propelled this mother into Theta Mom territory.

Or perhaps it’s the sometimes the judgmental side of motherhood that makes this Theta Mom so real or the simple five words that changed her life or how motherhood redefined her or the sheer honesty of this job that includes tons of mommy meltdowns for this Theta Mom.

All of these posts spoke to the very heart of me and The Empress managed to find the right words that fully encompasses the essence of what this community is really all about. She did this so eloquently and it moved me to tears – because the vision I always had for this blog is now truly taking flight and I recognized this for the first time when I read that post.

In fact, every single post touched me in some way and I can’t thank each of you enough for taking the time to draft the words and publish so many authentic accounts of what a Theta Mom is to each of you.

So now I am honored to announce the Modern Bird Studios giveaway winner for this special blogoversary. It’s awarded to a blogger whose post nearly rocked me to the core. Her words jumped off of the computer screen as her story is nothing short of compelling. It is beautifully written about the experience of losing a child and dealing with the depression that followed. Congratulations Joy in this Journey as this post took much strength and courage to publish. You are an inspiration to us all and you ARE on the right path – keep blogging to your heart’s content because you are fantastic.

Honestly, I really do have the best readers on the planet. This blogoversary validated the very purpose this blog serves. To share, support, communicate and connect. Thank you, for allowing me into your life and for sharing this very real experience with me. And to those of you that did not draft a post or link up I know you are reading and that you’re here with me – and that alone speaks volumes so thank you for staying the course.

We ARE redefining the role of motherhood – and it’s a damn great place to be.

I always considered my mission as a blogger to be helping others see they’re not alone through my honest and often unflattering stories of my motherhood journey. I loved finding that you are already doing that-in a big way! What a great community. I am so proud to be a part.

  17. I was moved and deeply inspired by Joy in this Journey’s entry. Wow – I can’t imagine the strength it must have taken for her to write that.

    It’s wonderful that there are so many of us from such diverse backgrounds coming together to share our stories in this space, lending our voices to struggles and taboo that used to cripple us; now it just empowers us and others to forge ahead and conquer what life throws our way. It’s amazing what we can accomplish with the right support and encouragement.

      I was so moved by her words as well and the whole time I kept thinking, I can’t believe she has endured SO MUCH – she generated that post with so much honesty.

      And I am so glad so many of you see this as a space of support and connection – and with a little encouragement, it sure makes the tough days go by a little more smoothly knowing we are in this thing together.

    I had every intention of joining in on the fun… but sat down, and didn’t know how to write what I thought. Maybe one day I will get it out, but for now, I guess I feel so inadequate so often!

  20. I stand in awe, in empathy, and inspired by these women. They are all what a Theta mom is in my eyes—open, honest, real, imperfect, inspiring, multi-talented, ever giving, unconditional loving—women.
    I pray that I take the lessons learned here and write them on my heart. I may not be perfect but I am a mom.

  22. Sharing the raw emotion involved with the death of a child and the darkness which follows takes courage. Joy’s post inspired me to dig even deeper and begin focusing on the dark corners of my life. It is easy for me personally to share the story of my Emma and the joy I had in being her mom. The darkness which has been my world for the years since she left, now that is something I truly have not been able to share. Each day is a new beginnning…

  25. I look forward to reading the posts you’ve highlighted here. I’ve read a couple of them already actually. I wanted to write a post, but I just didn’t know where to begin. I’m still trying to figure out who I am as a mother … maybe that is what makes me true and authentic.

  32. Hi, ThetaMom: just got back from vacation and am catching up with all my faves here.

    I knew when I read Joy’s post, that she was clearly the best of all that was written. I had to start and stop and start reading her post, b/c it was too much for me to take in at once.

    What story, so surreal. And she survives, day by day. Beyond what I can imagine.

    Her post made it easy to determine the ThetaMom goal. It was hands down so clear…it was her post.

    Thank you for the opportunity to write this, I received so many positives, and I know it sent some people over to your site to become a member.
