It’s Time Out for Theta Mom Thursday! For those of you visiting for the first time, the goal is to grab one hour of time within one week to do whatever you want…without the kids. It’s such an amazing proposition, I know! On Thursdays, post how you spent your “time out” (add my button from the right side bar or link to me) and be sure to stop here to link up and meet other Theta Moms to see how they spent their time out!
Well, my two kids have a birthday coming up. My son will be four next week and my daughter will be turning one. Although they are three years apart, their birth dates are only four days apart.
I will let you in on a little secret…
I may be a smart woman. But, I am a brilliant Theta Mom. Why? Because I will do ONE birthday party.
Two cakes + one party = less drama.
I think many of you know I hate to cook, so pizza is on the menu for the big bash. Since there is such little preparation needed in the food department, I like to go all out on the decorating. I mean, after all, it is their birthday.
So, I spent my one hour in my second favorite store. My all time favorite store is Target. I mean, who doesn’t LOVE that place? The problem is, I always go into Target with a list and end up buying way more things than I really need. I could spend hours there. But because I am planning for the “one big” birthday party, I needed to go to the real deal…Party City.
There’s something about Party City that gets me totally excited when I walk through that door. Maybe it’s all the fun and cheerful decorations beaming from every aisle or perhaps it’s the spooky Halloween music that just put me in the mood to have a rockin’ P-A-R-T-Y!
I must admit, I had the BEST time browsing through every aisle, looking at the fun Halloween decorations, costumes and birthday stuff. So much to look at and so little time!
But ladies, the beauty of this time out was the fact that I didn’t have to worry about a screaming baby in the shopping cart. Isn’t that the worst? And I didn’t have to chase after my almost four year-old running through the aisles, wanting me to buy every-single-stinking-thing.
Nope, it was just me, my cart, and the lovely decorations. I was able to take my time and make careful, important decisions. You know, like deciding between which Princess plates I should purchase.
I didn’t even have the party yet… and I had a blast!
How did you spend your one hour?

The Grown-Up Child says
Oh I'm not sure if this counts. I had my husband drop our daughter off at my parents house and I took our son to hockey all by ourselves. While he skated away, I sat in the arena with my laptop and blogged. A whole hour of uninterrupted blogging in a cold arena and while receiving strange glances from the other hockey parents.
I loved it. When I finished my post, I felt great (even with numb fingers)!
Hey, and I did actually blog about this!! See? I'm getting better at Theta Mom Thursday!

I am running getting kids out for school..should not even be on the computer!!! Will be back to do it right next time…but we are going out for breakfast this morning as soon as the last kid is on the bus! One of our pal's birthday! So time out for us!! Dropping by from SITS by the way!

Fantastic Idea and great time out. I spend less money if I can shop on my own.
Vicki says
I love party city. But you are right, important decisions are too hard to make with a wailing baby and an overanxious toddler. Do the birthdays get easier as they get older? Because I am telling you, I am a sobbing mess at even half birthdays!
Amy says
I have to start getting my thought together also. My little one turns two next month. Oh she is getting big. Have a great Thursday.
Alice in Wonderland says
I love kids parties! All the shopping and arranging things! But you can bet that all of your work will be completely destroyed within 5 minutes! At least mine are!
Sometimes I wonder who gets the most pleasure out of them…you or the kids?

Have a great Thursday!
Lee the Hot Flash Queen says
My daughter's birthday is the end of October, and I have been begging her for the past few years to do a Halloween party. She finally agreed! I can't WAIT to decorate for it! I have lots of hours to myself, because my kids are in school all day!
Buckeroomama says
I love being able to shop on my own, with no one asking every minute, "Mommy, are you done yet? What's taking sooooo long?!"
Shelly says
I have the same problem in Target. I always come out with more than I had on my list for some strange reason! lol I'm with you, I don't cook a lot so I'd definitely do pizza.
HeartsMakeFamilies says
I have the same problem in both of those stores. I'm actually thinking about my daughter's birthday right now so hearing you talk about the store made me think thats next week's hour. I'm being a Theta mom thinking ahead.
NinasCD says
I have not been to Party City in years but I love that place! I had to laugh when you mention the almost 4 year old wanting everything in the store! I went out with my DGD who is 3 yesterday to buy (CLOTHES) because we are going to Disney Saturday for 3 days and she wanted not the clothes, but every toy in the store!! That is why they always put toy sections by clothes!! UGH. No me time yet, probably will sew later today.

Sounds like a fun trip! I love both the stores you mentioned, but usually I DO have the kids with me. So which plates did you decide on? I hope they have an awesome party. Of course with you as their mom, I am sure they will. I am the worst blog friend ever. Second week to not write something for a post. I truly haven't had me time. I enjoy reading everyone elses though! Thanks Theta Mom
Alicia says
fun!! i want to see the decorations you picked out!! i went to target last night by myself for an HOUR and it was heaven…..sigh….have fun planning the party!!
Xenia says
I think I could spend days in Target and Party City (the ones near me are right next door to each other too, did they do that on purpose?) but I too end up coming home with things I didn't need.
Can't wait to hear more about the party, I'm sure it will be great!
our b life says
Going anywhere without the kids is great. You don't end up with something you didn't mean to buy because the little ones snuck it in the cart before you could realize it.

Great that you had a fun time shopping for the party. We are almost in the same boat. In November my youngest turns one and one week later, my oldest turns 5.

This is the 1st time I have been on your blog….I have been blog-hopping tonight so I can't even tell you how I found you! LOL!
If I could remember the last 5 days, I would post about my HOUR….but tomorrow after I organize book orders for my daughter's teacher I am headed for a MANI/PEDI and I am telling her to TAKE HER TIME!
And you will see me next week when I join you w my MckLinky!

Can't wait to see the decorations.
I linked up, if that's the term. All this time I thought it was something difficult. I'm still learning.

i spent my one hour today walking slowly through Albertson's, our grocery. I spent six minutes just looking at frozen waffles, not just throwing in what the toddler demanded. it was lovely. it went by way too fast.
Andrea (ace1028) says
This sounds like a fabulous idea! I'll have to try to join you all next week!
