I’m so excited to officially launch Time Out for Theta Mom Thursday! For those of you visiting for the first time, the goal is to grab one hour of time within one week to do whatever you want…without the kids. It’s such an amazing proposition, I know! To join us, on Thursday post how you spent your “time out” (add my button from the right side bar or link to me) and then be sure to stop here to link up and meet other Theta Moms to see how they spent their time out!
So, I received a phone call from a really good friend of mine. I’ve known her since I was in 5th grade. We grew up together, went to school together, and stayed friends throughout college and beyond. She lives in Maryland with her husband and adorable little girl. But, we don’t get to see each other that often because we live in different states. So you can imagine my surprise and excitement when she called to tell me she was in New Jersey, spending a week down the Jersey Shore with her family! Can I get a WOOT WOOT?
As we were talking, she asked me to come over to their shore house for the day so we could go to the beach together with the kids.

Mmmmmm, I thought for a moment…..dragging my kids to the beach when it’s 1,000 degrees outside, lugging 50 pounds of their apparatus for one lousy hour at the ocean, calming a screaming baby and running after a wondering toddler, doing this alone because the hubs is working…and, oh yes, I would be breaking the most important “Time Out” rule (no kids) anyway…
Upon thoughtful consideration (that actually lasted a whole five seconds), I immediately explained my dilemma to her. And for the record, going to the beach with the kids without the help of my husband would not have been fun for me, nor appropriate for my time out!
I quickly responded, “Jess, how about you go to the beach with your family and I’ll come for a visit after 7:00 PM or so, when all the kids are in bed.
It was settled. I couldn’t wait to see one of my closest friends to catch up with her and talk for hours without any interruptions!
That evening, I drove down to her shore house, greeted her family and we immediately began chatting over some chips and salsa in the kitchen. It was one of those perfect summer nights. That fresh, salty air was coming in through the open windows, specks of sand from the beach could be found throughout the floor and felt on the bottom of my bare feet, and the idea that summer was still trying to hang on was so evident. Being there was total relaxation. Summer, one of my favorite seasons…
Nope, it was just me, one of my closest friends, a bottle of wine, and some rocking chairs on the porch overlooking the water at the Jersey Shore…and lots and lots of girl talk.

What a great idea! I don't think I will have any "me" time today because Hubby has his time consuming Fantasy Football Draft party tonight. If I can squeak some time in at nap I'll be back to post about it.

i'm glad you had a great time! I totally understand your hesitation w/ the beach! I live in FL and it's funny how my visits to the beach came to a screeching halt after my 2nd was born. Once there was more than 1 kid, there was just too much stuff to lug around and the beach just wasnt that much fun anymore. I'm hoping once they get older we can be beach bums again!
That sounds like an awesome hour! I was a Theta Thursday delinquent this week. But I'm going to buckle down and do better next week. I'm planning now. Putting out calls. I WILL get this done! (for me of course) 😉

Yup, that sounds wonderful! I love my kids and all, but it's great to have some "me" time, too.
P.S. The Korean pancake that we had tonight was made with potato, some flour, pieces of ham, and chives… I think.
This is such a fantastic idea. Yep did that last night away for 2 hours ahhhh a breath of fresh air. I do love my kids but sometimes you have to get away….LOL

well that worked out perfectly!! It's always fun to get the kids together, but even more fun if you actually have quiet time to catch up.
I have to do your linky thing, but in the meantime, I was able to get a hour to myself on Monday! My husband had the day off, so I went to the nature center for a whole two hours ALONE!

Well, I love your idea! Sounds like you had a great time. Sad to say that I did not have any me time this past week! I had really planned to, but life intervened. Ugh….so disappointing. I'm hoping to go out for coffee tomorrow afternoon….
That is such a good idea. I wonder if I could pull that off or not. My husband works nights and when he is home I sneak away to the room for some me time.
That sounds like a wonderful time out. Sitting with a friend and a glass of wine and no distractions? Yeah, pretty much my idea of heaven.

Wow that does sound divine! Going anywhere even with just one is a big production. Sometimes it makes me think of having no more but then I snap back to that place we call motherhood, which I love.
Anyway, I forgot this week but do plan to participate in the future.

Okay Theta Mom. I am totally clueless I guess. I didn't know how this whole thing was going to work. I thought I was suppose to come here and post what I did. You are so much more advanced with the whole MckLinky thing. I can tell you that I have had nothing even close to "me time". I just tried to lay my daughter down in her crib to come do blog stuff. Right after I laid her down she cried and threw up everywhere. She does it everytime I sit her down. If she cries for any amount of time other than like 30 seconds she throws up. UGHH I think I will type one handed for the next year or so. On the up side, I am getting fast at it.
Ok so next Thursday I get what I am suppose to do. Sorry I screwed up this time.

Oh I am so happy you had such a good time. I have been missing my old friends a lot lately. You definitely have inspired me to try to find some time to get back up to NY to see them.
